Daughter of George Patterson and Ann Marigold Patterson

Eliza Patterson

Eliza, daughter of George and Ann Merigold Patterson, was born in 1825. In the book The Griers, Pioneers in America and Canada, by William M. Grier, Jr., a copy of which is in the LDS library at Salt Lake City, Utah, the following is related concerning Eliza and the family into which she married: "James Grier, a Scot descendant of the Macgregor Clan, was born in Northern Ireland in 1818. In the late 1830's he emigrated to Upper Canada (Ontario) and settled in the township of Pakenham. He first worked as a carriage and sleighmaker, a trade that took him to many nearby towns, including Perth. There he met and on July 4, 1844, married Eliza Anne Patterson, in the Episcopal Church of St. James. Eliza was born in Perth in 1825, daughter of George Patterson and Anne Marigold." James and Eliza lived in Matilda Township (later Iroquois) Ontario from where some sons immigrated to Colorado, Utah, and California. Eliza died October 14, 1884. The Ontario Archives Microfilm lists the marriage of James GRIER, 60, widower, gentleman, of Montreal, married Susannah WEATHERHEAD, 50, widow, of Perth, witnesses: Mrs. G..L. WALKER & Mrs. William MEIGHEN, both of Perth, 19 June 1886 at Perth.
